Toward Independence, Inc.

Toward Independence, Inc. (TII) is a nonprofit agency that provides a full range of services and support programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. Our mission is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to live the fullest life possible by providing individualized services in a variety of community settings. Founded in 1975 by a group of dedicated parents and professionals, our agency has assisted over 180 individuals in fulfilling their personal needs, choices, hopes and dreams during our years of operation. It is our enduring goal to honor the worth and dignity of each individual we serve. With offices in Cincinnati and Xenia, Ohio, we currently serve over 160 individuals in Greene, Hamilton, and Montgomery Counties.

Over 250 qualified employees work together to address the specific needs of the children and adults in our TII family. We also have a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors that gives guidance and direction to the agency. In addition, we embrace collaboration with both governmental and other private organizations and agencies. We know that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in our community with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

Our Philosophy

Toward Independence is a consumer-centered service provider that believes individuals with developmental disabilities should have as much choice about their own lifestyles as is possible and responsible. We honor the inherent worth and dignity of all individuals we serve and respect their right to develop, succeed, take risks, make choices, and have meaningful social relationships with others. We encourage direct involvement and interaction between the individuals we serve and the community in social, economic, vocational, educational, religious, and civic areas.
